Radio Sawa seeks to effectively communicate with the youthful population of Arabic-speakers in the Middle East by providing up-to-date news, information and entertainment on FM and medium wave radio stations throughout the region and on Radio Sawa's website. Radio Sawa is also available on Arabsat, Eutelsat and Nilesat. Radio Sawa is dedicated to broadcasting accurate, timely and relevant news about the Middle East, the world and the United States. Radio Sawa is committed to the highest standards of journalism, free marketplace of ideas, respect for the intelligence and culture of its audience, and a style that is upbeat, modern and forward-looking. Radio Sawa, a 24-hour, seven day a week Arabic-language network, began broadcasting on March 23, 2002. It originates its broadcasts from studios in the Washington, DC area as well as news bureaus throughout the Middle East. The network is a service of the Middle East Broadcasting Networks, Inc. and is publicly funded by the Broadcasting Board of Governors and the U.S. Congress.

S. Enders Wimbush Named Chair of the Middle East Broadcasting Networks, Inc.
S. Enders Wimbush has been elected Chair of the Board of Directors of the Middle East Broadcasting Networks, Inc. (MBN). In addition to serving on the Broadcasting Board of Governors, where he also chairs the Strategy and Budget Committee, Wimbush is Senior Director, Foreign Policy and Civil Society at the German Marshall Fund of the United Statesand and former Director of Radio Liberty.
Wimbush has worked for Booz Allen Hamilton, Science Applications International Corporation, and the Rand Corporation as a consultant, strategist and analyst of international security issues, and for Runzheimer International as director of communications. Earlier he directed the Society for Central Asian Studies in Oxford, England. Wimbush is also the author or editor of seven books, including several authoritative histories of Central Asia and the Caucasus.
MBN is the parent company of Alhurra Television and Radio Sawa. MBN is financed by the U.S. Government through a grant from the BBG, an independent federal agency charged with overseeing all U.S. civilian international broadcasting. As a condition of its bylaws, MBN’s board is comprised all members of the BBG including Governors Walter Isaacson, Victor Ashe, Michael Lynton, Susan McCue, Michael Meehan, Dennis Mulhaupt, Dana Perino and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Victor H. Ashe
Mr. Ashe serves on the BBG Governance Committee and is Vice Chair of the Board of Radio Free Asia.
Ambassador Ashe holds the distinction of being the longest serving mayor of Knoxville. During his time in office, from 1988 to 2003, he was the President to the U.S. Conference of Mayors from 1994 to 1995 and received their Distinguished Service Award for Leadership in 2003.
Ashe served as the United States Ambassador to Poland from June 2004 to October 2009. In 2004, he was a Fellow at Harvard University’s JFK Institute of Politics.
From 1968 until 1974, Ashe served as a Tennessee State Representative. In 1975, he was elected as State Senator and held office until 1984. Ashe served in 1967 as a staff assistant to US Sen. Howard Baker. He was executive director of the Americans Outdoors Commission, 1985-1987 chaired by Sen. Lamar Alexander (then Governor).
Five U.S. Presidents, beginning with President Ronald Reagan, have named Ashe to different federal positions. He will be the first former Ambassador and local elected official to serve on the BBG.
Ashe currently sits on the Board of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the American Rivers Association, and is a former member of the AmeriCorps Board of Directors.
Ambassador Ashe earned a B.A. in History from Yale University in 1967 and graduated from the College of Law at the University of Tennessee in 1974.
Ashe serves on the BBG Governance Committee and is Corporate Board Vice Chair of Radio Free Asia.

He is married to the former Joan Plumlee and they have two children—J. Victor and Martha.

Hillary Rodham Clinton
On January 21, 2009, Hillary Rodham Clinton became the 67th Secretary of State of the United States.
Prior to becoming Secretary of State, Mrs. Clinton has served in the United States Senate as the junior senator from New York, a post she was elected to in 2000 and then re-elected in 2006. In the Senate, she served on the Armed Services Committee, the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, the Environment and Public Works Committee, the Budget Committee and the Select Committee on Aging. She was also a Commissioner on the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe.
As a former First Lady, and previously as an attorney, Mrs. Clinton was an avid advocate for human rights, democracy and civil society.

Michael Lynton
Mr. Lynton serves the BBG’s interim presiding governor
Michael Lynton is the Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment. He is the former CEO of AOL Europe and Chairman and CEO of Pearson plc’s Penguin Group.
Mr. Lynton is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and serves on the boards of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Rand Corporation.
He is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Business School and is proficient in French, German and Dutch.
Lynton was named the BBG’s interim presiding governor following the departure of Chairman Walter Isaacson in February, 2012.

Susan McCue
Ms. McCue serves as Co-Chair of the BBG Communications and Outreach Committee and Vice Chair of the Board of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
Susan McCue is President of Message Global, a strategic advocacy firm she founded in 2008 for social action campaigns.
She was the founding President and CEO of The ONE Campaign to combat extreme global poverty and was Chief of Staff to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid from 1999 to 2006. Before that she held numerous communications positions in government and campaigns. She is currently Vice Chair of Humanity United and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
A New Jersey native, Ms. McCue is a graduate of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J., with degrees in economics and journalism.
McCue serves as Co-Chair of the BBG Communications and Outreach Committee and Vice Chair of the Board of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

Michael P. Meehan
Meehan serves as Co-Chair of the BBG Communications and Outreach Committee, Chair of the Board of Radio Free Asia.
Michael P. Meehan currently serves as Co-Founder and CEO of Venn² Communications. He also served as the first President of BGR Public Relations, LLC.
For over two decades, Meehan served in senior roles for U.S. Senators John Kerry, Barbara Boxer, Maria Cantwell and former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, two presidential campaigns, two U.S. House offices and congressional campaigns in 25 states. Mr. Meehan earned a B.A. in political science from Bates College.

Dennis Mulhaupt
Mr. Mulhaupt serves as the Chair of the BBG Governance Committee. He also serves on the Strategy and Budget Committee and is the Chair of the Board of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
Dennis Mulhaupt is founder and Managing Director of Commonwealth Partners, Inc., a firm which provides advisory services to philanthropic institutions and families.
He began his career working in an investment bank in London and subsequently established the West Coast international political and economic risk advisory department at a major U. S. financial services company.
After 15 years in various corporate roles, he turned full-time to the non-profit sector. Before founding Commonwealth Partners, he served as Executive Vice President at KCET in Los Angeles, the West Coast flagship public broadcasting and media company. Other roles in higher education administration have included positions as Vice President at Claremont McKenna College; Associate Vice President at Stanford University; and Senior Associate Dean in the College of Letters, Arts & Sciences at the University of Southern California, where he also taught undergraduate courses in international relations.
Mr. Mulhaupt received his B.A. from the University of Southern California and an M.Phil. from Cambridge University where he also did doctoral work in history and international relations.
Mr. Mulhaupt serves as the Chair of the BBG Governance Committee. He also serves on the Strategy and Budget Committee and is the Chair of the Board of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

Dana Perino
Ms. Perino serves as Co-Chair of the BBG Communications and Outreach Committee
Dana Perino is the founder of Dana Perino and Company, a strategic communications firm, a member of the Burson-Marsteller Global Strategy Team, and a Fox News Contributor.
She is the former White House Press Secretary to President George W. Bush – the first Republican woman to hold that position. She is the creator of Minute Mentoring, a program helping young women entering the workforce, and a member of the ONE Campaign’s Women’s Advisory Board, Mother’s Day Every Day, Running Start, and Pets2Vets.
Ms. Perino previously served in the United States Justice Department, was Director of Communications for the White House Council on Environmental Quality, and worked on Capitol Hill for Representatives Dan Schaefer (R-CO) and Scott McInnis (R-CO).
She holds a M.A. in Public Affairs Reporting from the University of Illinois – Springfield and a B.A. in Mass Communications from Colorado State University – Pueblo.
Perino serves as Co-Chair of the BBG Communications and Outreach Committee.

Sawa's Web site Receives First Prize for Excellence

The Pan Arab Web Awards Academy Jury Committee awarded the Radio Sawa's Web site (www.RadioSawa.com) first prize for Web site excellence in its fifth annual competition of Pan Arab Web sites. RadioSawa.com won first place in the Media-TV and Radio category which recognizes excellence in Web design and development. The criteria for the award included creativity, user friendliness, content, visual design and interactivity. The awards were presented on April 25th, in Dubai. RadioSawa.com is an all-news Web site that is a reliable source of information and is frequently cited by other media organizations in the Middle East and the world as a source of credible news and information. The Radio Sawa Web site is distinguished among other Arabic-speaking media and press Web sites not only by the speed of reporting news and information but also by exclusive interviews and news stories conducted by a vast network of correspondents that cover the Middle East, the United States and the world. RadioSawa.com also has a dedicated Web page on Iraq where up-to-the-minute daily reports are posted on issues and concerns to the Iraqi people. Additionally, Radio Sawa's Web site covers technology, science, health, culture and arts and sports. Radio Sawa provides listeners with more than seven hours a day of credible and objective news and information through its 370 weekly newscasts. Radio Sawa also broadcasts feature reports on topics that are seldom covered in other radio stations in the Middle East on its programs such as "Free Zone" that discusses freedom of speech, democracy and women's rights on a weekly basis.
